This book is written somewhat in a Harry Potter style. A boy discovers that he actually comes from a magical part of the world that has been hidden away. I thought that this book was a lot of fun to read and although the idea may not have been completely original, I thought it was well written. There isn't any inappropriate content and would be suitable for family reading.

Erec Rex has always had a strange life. He had had to move frequently and along with his adopted s
iblings, he has lived with his mother and her odd gadgets. However, one day he discovers that his mother is actually from a hidden part of the world where magic still exists. This discovery will challenge Erec in many ways as he travels to participate in a contest that will decide the next king. Erec will have to make new friends and use everything he knows to do well in the contest and stay alive.
To clarify, the book is not a Harry Potter copycat. Far from it. There are a few little details (like the main boy having a girl and a boy best friend, and there being a magical entrance in a train station, etc.), but the story itself is completely original and fun. I loved it.
